SUPERINTENDENT – HEAVY CIVIL CONSTRUCTION – CONFIDENTIAL SEARCH

Qualifications
· 8–10+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
· 3–5+ years in a superintendent or foreman leadership role.
· Strong knowledge of:
o Earthwork
o Asphalt paving
o Underground utilities
o Highway and airport construction
o Civil grading
· Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
· Knowledge of CPM scheduling and short-interval planning.
· Experience managing union labor preferred.
· Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
The Superintendent is responsible for managing daily field operations on heavy civil construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader, coordinating crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials while maintaining strong communication with project management, clients, and inspectors.
· Direct all daily field operations on heavy civil projects including grading, paving, underground utilities, airports, highways, and infrastructure.
· Lead and supervise foremen, operators, laborers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
· Develop and maintain short-term work plans (3-week and daily schedules).
· Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material deliveries.
· Ensure project activities comply with contract documents, specifications, and drawings.
· Monitor productivity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
· Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company safety policies and Cal/OSHA regulations.
· Coordinate inspections with owners, agencies, and quality control personnel.
· Review production quantities and assist with cost control.
· Maintain daily reports documenting labor, equipment, production, weather, delays, and project progress.
· Resolve field issues and coordinate solutions with Project Managers and engineers.
· Promote teamwork and maintain positive relationships with clients, inspectors, and subcontractors.
